The library was begun in 1878 with the
goal of promoting research, study, and editing of the Francis-can
masters. The library specia-lized in the field of Franciscan philosophy,
theology, history, and spirituality. At present, the library of
Quaracchi-Grottaferrata contains about 34,000 books and 1200 periodicals
(330 of which are still being published), 24 manuscripts, 63 incunabula,
and some 450-500 other rare works. Apart from the vast Franciscan
collection, there is a Greek and Latin Patrology Migne, a collection
of Chrètiennes patristic sources, a Corpus Christi-anorum,
as well as various catalo-gues and manuscripts of Vatican, Italian,
Polish, French, Spanish, German, and English libraries, etc. The
library is open to students and scientists from all over the world.
