ISaint Bonaventure College was founded in
1877 by minister general Bernardino of the Vago da Portogruaro
in Quaracchi / Florence. Its principle goal was the preparation
of the critical edition of the works of Saint Bonaventure. The
task was entrusted to a group of religious from different nations
under the direction of fr. Fedele Magdalene da Fanna (+1881, succeeded
by fr. Ignatius Jeiler +1904). The eleven volume edition was pub-lished
in the years 1882-1902 at Quaracchi. The Franciscan friars of
Quaracchi, in addition to the critical edition of the Bonaven-turian
texts, also took charge of the publication of the writings of
Saint Francis and of some of the great Franciscan medieval masters:
Alexander of Hales, John Duns Scotus, and Bernadine of Siena.
Today they are committed to continue historical research in Francescana
from medieval to modern times. At a high scientific level, they
publish the review, Archivum Franciscanum Historicum and they
are in charge of the revision and continuation of the Bullarium
Franciscanum and other historical, theological, and spiritual
series. In 1971, Saint Bonaventure College was relocated to Grotta-ferrata,
Rome.
